Thanks!

Anyone know why these nzb are not working with Grabit 1.7.6 Beta 6 ?

What software should I use?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm trying to download the dreamcast nzb from the original post but whatever zip program I use I am unable to extract the nzb due to corruption.  I tried the saturn zip and go the same problem.  Is it because I've just registered?  Also is the collection password protected as binsearch.info appears to show the post as being?

Thanks

Richy

The attachments are indeed broken - perhaps norman or someone else has them still and is willing to upload

Managed to successfully get it, by downloading all the headers in the newsgroup.  Thanks, great set.

Greetings

I realize this thread was started in 2014 but GigaNews still has "most" of the binaries posted in the a.b.e.m newsgroup.

I was hoping someone could repost the PAR files for the larger collections like the Saturn, PS1, Sega CD, Turbo Duo CD, & Neo Geo CD archives.

most of these just need a dozen or so extra blocks, the Saturn needs more, but all could use a full PAR repost to keep them going beyond the current 994 day count

of course a full repost would keep it alive a lot longer if anyone is able.

cheers

It should all be right in there. Have you tried to manually download all the headers? GN is giving "2367 days binary retention"... which should get you about all since the start of this decade ;)

Unless you were talking about the indexing services (nzbindex.nl, binsearch.info, etc.)

I use GigaNews, have for years because the retention is amazing.

the trurip posts are indeed there but some of the files from each upload are incomplete, especially with the larger sets that I mentioned. I did indeed download all that was available on GN but it was't quite enough. the saturn and neo geo cd sets are just shy of a hundred or so blocks each using all the available par files that are complete.

is there anywhere else I can grab these files?  as for giga, they didn't aways have that much retention. in fact its only recently that it goes back that far. prior to that, it was two years, then three and so on. they keep getting better.

I'm on a mac with Unison as the newsreader . I use quickpar (macpar deluxe) as well as the linux command line par2 app that works in a comman terminal window

here is what that app reported for the trurip saturn collection

par2verify Sega Saturn (v2014-05-11 15-32-23).vol000+2.par

par2repair -N Sega_Saturn.vol000+2.par2

Repair is required.
850 file(s) exist but are damaged.
7611 file(s) are ok.
You have 7611 out of 8461 data blocks available.
You have 753 recovery blocks available.
Repair is not possible.
You need 97 more recovery blocks to be able to repair.

do you have a better suggestion for a mac user

the neo geo collection requires just about the same number of blocks, 136 I think it was.

I used to use Giganews, but after the whole DCMA taking stuff down, I switched to eweka, as it is based out of the USA and not subject to DCMA rules.

That's never been an issue for me when it comes to classic game binaries on giganews. posts stay up for years. there are also other methods to posting that get around all that nonsense... but this is all aside from the point.

hoping to be able to fill the holes on the TR usenet uploads from 2014

trurip SNK Neo-Geo CD (v2014-05-02 00-05-11) [1361/1362] -
"trurip SNK Neo-Geo CD (v2014-05-02 00-05-11).vol063+64.par2" yEnc (1/8712)
incomplete (8706 / 8712)   nobody   a.b.emulators.misc   987d

trurip SNK Neo-Geo CD (v2014-05-02 00-05-11) [1360/1362] -
"trurip SNK Neo-Geo CD (v2014-05-02 00-05-11).vol031+32.par2" yEnc (1/4358)
incomplete (4353 / 4358)   nobody   a.b.emulators.misc   987d

the two largest PAR files for the Neo Geo CD upload are missing just a few parts... it would be great if they could be accessed somewhere or reuploaded

does anyone know where I can find Usenet posts that old that are still intact?

It should all be right in there. ...

Unless you were talking about the indexing services (nzbindex.nl, binsearch.info, etc.)

I have to thank you for saying this earlier. Something about the idea that binsearch might be at fault for the problem I'm having rather than it being a retention issue made me check around... I was about to give up when I tried a different usenet search engine that provides NZB.

Newsleech did the trick.

I tried it first with one of the PAR files that didn't download all the way and sure enough, instead of the largest par file for the trurip neo geo cd archive being 6.68 GB, the newsleech nzb for that par file was 6.91GB.

I recovered the set. I had NO fucking clue that binsearch was screwy like that

does anyone know why this is the case? ... why newsleech has complete files listed, while binsearch has many that were missing parts?

I thank you sir, for inadvertently pointing me in the right direction with this issue..

cheers!  8)
