Hi everyone,

I posted this baby before, but apart from this being the newest version, it is also particulary helpful when restoring audio data. What is it? It is a script I wrote to convert/fix misdumped images into redump format by applying various methods, some of which have been explained to me by fellow member balthier. You would need at least Python 3.1 to run the script (I'm using v3.4.2). You would also need isobuster installed to handle the raw format conversion. Some of its features are:

- converting iso tracks to 2352 bytes/sec raw format
- stripping RIFF headers from wav audio tracks
- realigning audio tracks using merged audio data, padding or empty sectors
- fixing dreamcast tracks using a special padding approach
- cropping or padding of binary tracks
- conversion of nrg images into bin format
- conversion of ccd/gdi images into bin format
- unpacking of ecm encoded images

I will be happy to implement more methods. Just drop me a line and send me some examples...  :)

Your script is asking for "track"-files.  So how does it work?

Simply rename an iso oder other image to tracks? wav-files to tracks?

Could you please post a small guide?

Many thanks!

Yip, sorry, forgot to repost that one. BTW, this small guide can also be found by opening fix_roms.py with your favourite editor. The comments at the beginning of the script explain it all. Well, at least most of it. Hopefully. Hmm, otherwise ask. I'm glad to help... ;)

*** Guide ***

Extract the whole archive into its own working directory. You will get the script itself (fix_roms.py) and a tools folder with some additional files and data templates. Also make sure that Python 3.1+ and the image management software ISOBUSTER is properly installed on your system and included in your system path. If you want to relocate the required tools and files into different folders, you can modify their paths by editing the global path variables (if you have opened the script file in a text editor, you will find those directly below this tutorial). If ISOBUSTER should not be used, set isobuster_path=None. The rom_path pointing to the folder containing the images to be fixed can be set in the same manner. By default, this script is looking for images and .tracks files in the same folder it is located in.

This script tries to fix tracks based upon REDUMP track info. You need to have the the source files of a dump named

- "Title (Track 01 of 10).[bin|iso|wav|img|raw]",
- "Title (Track 02 of 10).[bin|iso|wav|img|raw]",
- ...

or

- "Title (Track 01).[bin|iso|wav|img|raw]",
- "Title (Track 02).[bin|iso|wav|img|raw]",
- ...

and so on. If you want to work with single file images you need the image file and probably a cue file named

- "Title.[nrg|bin|img]"
- "Title.[cue|ccd]"

You also need a track info file named

- "Title.tracks"

with the corresponding REDUMP info for each track copied into it. There should be one line for each track. Just copy & pasting the table body from the REDUMP site should do the trick. This is how a sample track files content should look like:

1   Data/Mode 1   00:00:00   03:36:43   16243   38203536   2a316390   7108aa725726eca70f4d8b47677d6a2c   7578497f459f15fa4bba8616de6567c99a2d3578

Start the script by double clicking or (even better) using a shell or command line interface. After starting this script, it will look for the .tracks files containing type, length and checksum info for all the tracks of the corresponding image. Once all track info data has been loaded, the script will try to fix each described image by using the following procedure:

- if a matching .nrg file exists, it will be split into single tracks and deleted (on success only); the resulting files will be added to the list of available source files
- if a .cue or .ccd file exists, its content will be parsed; if the cue sheet refers to a single image file, the image will be split into single tracks and deleted (on success only); the resulting files will be added to the list of available source files
- single track files matching the naming scheme mentioned above will be added to the list of available source files
- after the source files have been found, they will be analyzed to find possible problems or even matches
- methods implemented so far:
o if a data track is not already in raw bin format with 2352 bytes/sector, an automatic conversion will be triggered later on
o .ecm packed tracks will be unpacked during the fixing step
o if a track contains a dream cast data, a special fixing method will be used to restore the track
o over-/under-sized tracks will be cropped or padded later on; cropped parts will be written into a separate .part file and used in further padding steps
o if an audio track still has a WAV header, the header will be stripped
o if the calculated MD5 checksum of an audio track does not match its supposed value from the .tracks file, a brute force checksum match will run on the audio track
- now the script will try to fix the broken tracks
- unneeded source files for fixed or converted tracks will be deleted after fixing to save precious disc space (run this script on backup images if you want to keep them for other purposes)

I guess this should sum it up, but please feel free to ask any questions that might come up. Also, as said before, I will happily continue to implement more fixing methods or enhance usability based on your feedback...
