How to use goodtools?
« on: December 12, 2017 - 00:15:41 »
Tried to find a guide but couldn't find any (?!), how do I use the commandline?

If someone can give me some example commands to audit/rename the roms that would be appreciated.

Suppose I have a directory with:

Root/Roms/misnamedrom.rom
Root/Roms/unneeded-rom.rom
Root/goodxyz.exe

How do I rename misnamedrom.rom to the correct name, remove unneeded-rom.rom and create the have/miss lists?

goodtools sorts itself...
just do goodxxx.exe rename
and it sorts files into goodtools naming...
just not to be bad, i just proclaim to not to use search anymore for others than myself. Its easy. If you got almost fullsets, your missings are often posted together in one.

Ah rename, ok I get it.

Throw new roms in directory where goodxyz.exe is, run goodxxx.exe rename, it will then add it to XYZRen folder.

Is there a way to audit roms in the XYZRen folder? Like to remove bad files that don't belong there?

it doesnt move bad files... your folder filled with roms will be moved to its place except those which doesnt belong...
1. roms will be moved to ---> goodxxxREN
2. roms ---> files left which goodtools doesnt know.

Right but suppose for a moment a bad file were to get into XYZRen, perhaps by downloading a pack or accidentally adding a file to it.
I guess one could just copy all of the files out of XYZRen and just have goodtools sort it back, that would work.

if you manually add some "bad" files, goodtools just dont touch them nor get attention of it...
the only thing that work is to fill a folder again and sort it again... 'til it's complete....

I remember there was also a function that would allow renaming within a specific folder, without moving files.
Haven't used it for a long time, but I think it was goodxxx rename inplace
Suppose it doesn't hurt to try this command...
