How can I validate TOSEC?
« on: February 24, 2018 - 17:02:34 »
I have been using ClrMamePro to validate MAME, FBA, HBMAME, and No-Intro ROMs with no problems. However, I have been having difficulty with using TOSEC dats. The problem is simply because there are too many individual DATs. Although I know how to bulk-import and bulk-scan the DATs, I don't know a way to automatically configue the ROM path of each DAT.

Is there a trick to doing this?

Does romvault have a specific function to do this? Is there no equivalent for CMP?

its creates the path for every .dat bellow the RomRoot folder. After that you can change the folders/.dat files you want outside that folder.

starting from the beginning:
- extract romvault to a folder
- copy all .dat files to DATRoot
- copy all roms to "tosort folder" or you can change the tosort folder in romvault
- Start romvault
- Press "Update dats" so romvault reads dat files
- press "scan Roms" to romvault scan the rootfolder and tosort folder
- press "find fixes" to romvault check what should be done to fix files
- press "Fix roms" to romvault fix the files
- enjoy and relax until all folders are green

this is for all the .dats :)

simple and easy

for me it only misses the header option and have several "tosort" folders :)

thats, why i use cmp.
i use it for checking, not for organizing.
just not to be bad, i just proclaim to not to use search anymore for others than myself. Its easy. If you got almost fullsets, your missings are often posted together in one.

I found the key to efficient scanning/fixing when you have  many many dats and roms is to use multiple romvaults. first romvault for large complete sets, always green of course. 2nd with almost complete fairly large sets. and 3rd with all the random little sets that are so small it dont matter if complete, and/or large with very little complete.   operate with the 3rd I described, stick in fixdats from the 2nd romvault. and back up your cache files regularly to a backup folder (even though cache has backup cache) before scanning with any new dats. that way you can return to where you was after removing the extra stuff no matter what you click. remember adding dats or fixdats to the datroot cannot add anything unique to the romroot by itself....

with 2 computers. put first on secondary comp., 2nd and 3rd on primary (faster)

Just learn how to use your ROM manager.

clrmamepro can input new TOSEC dats, add them to your profile manager, create ROM folders, add the folder to it's scan path, then scan/rebuild

Roman even allows me to make a fart noise after a scan!

scan path across 3 - 8 TB drives for maybe 7 roms in a fixdat. small dat, millions of roms to check. ok the new scan in clrmamepro is like level 3 scan in RV. new dat in RV only scans the cache not the roms again. every time I add new dat to clrmamepro I can only do a new scan of roms already scanned before....

I often find fixes for new dats in unexpected collections in RV. with TDC #14, I found 1000's of fixes in older exodos folders, and a number from all sorts of folders. I scan every bit of my collection with any new dat or fixdat. updating dats/scanning/fixing 4,000,000+ roms (with new dat) in RV takes much less time than rebuilding/then new scan in clrmamepro (if same collection used as source folder)
