Two new missings that have just been put in the DAT.

Picross NP Vol. 3 (Japan) (Rev 1) (NP).sfc  CRC32 717243E7
Picross NP Vol. 5 (Japan) (Rev 1) (NP).sfc  CRC32 5AC117C9

Thanks to @FBRD for the picross 5 as he edited the original following @skamans instructions, I did the other one in the same way.

I am not responsible for dumping these though, I think skaman is the original dumper.

Whoops, I think Connie might have posted it as well, I think that was what the 'LOL' was for, so could have seen it there too!

I don't ever mean to post (re-post) anybody else's work so I do apologise in advance if I have inadvertently aped (copied) somebodies hard work, the correct person to thank should be 'skaman' as I think he has been responsible for the dumping of a lot, if not all the Nintendo Power SNES roms, although he may be reluctant to share :(, also he gave the information for the small hex edit to convert the old revision to the newer one.

Sorry Connie!

To be clear, the ROMs were dumped by skaman who gave this info at no-intro's forum:

Vol 3
Quote
Picross NP Vol. 3 Rev 1.1 has the same internal Checksum as the Rev 1.0. The ROMs only differ by 2 bytes. Actually only 1 byte of code is different which is offset by the 1 byte change for the Revision in the header.
Code:
Difference:
0x4B93:  Rev 1.0:  0x01
0x4B93:  Rev 1.1:  0x00

0xFFDB:  Rev 1.0:  0x00
0xFFDB:  Rev 1.1:  0x01

Vol 5
Quote
Only 6 bytes different between Rev 1.0 and Rev 1.1. Really only 1 meaningful byte different at 0x4C01. The other changed bytes are the revision and checksums.

Code:
0x4C01:  Rev 1.0:  FF
0x4C01:  Rev 1.1:  00

0xFFDB:  Rev 1.0:  00 8C C8 73 37
0xFFDB:  Rev 1.1:  01 8A C9 75 36
Now you know who is the one to praise for both ROMs :D

Thanks 'fprietog', as I have always said in my other posts, the thanks should go to the dumpers and datters, the people who buy and dump and log all of this for the "collectors"

we don't all leech though, there are plenty of people who contribute in other ways! Enough Said!  :P

I'm married, sorry  ;D

BTW: don't delete the previous 12 satellaview files until we know for sure why they (no-intro) suddenly replaced them (I get the "new" ones from GoodSNES/MESS). It may be a mistake.

More info. Seems that they have restored the old files that they changed years ago with this reason:
Setting boot byte to "1 boot remaining". It makes the game bootable again and the ROM assuredly had at least one boot at some point in its life, so purity is still preserved.

Thx litry but your DATs are bad as the ones i generated before...
NES:
Missing
·Sets                 13/13
·ROMs                 13/13
·CHDs                 -/0
·Samples              -/0
·Bytes                1mb/1mb

SNES:
Missing
·Sets                 38/38
·ROMs                 38/38
·CHDs                 -/0
·Samples              -/0
·Bytes                46mb/46mb

all of my roms are "unneeded file" and show me i'm missing the ones "not physical dumps"

Maybe I am misunderstanding but what's wrong with the DAT's from: http://datomatic.no-intro.org (http://datomatic.no-intro.org)?

If scanning is the problem, at least for NES, you might need a header file depending on the DAT and your ROMs.

Could you post a old version of the dat you have that was good for you.
They made many changes at No-Into with the dats , maybe there is something switched.

the error is:
if i choose to get a DAT  with "physical dumps only" the created DAT says all ROMs are unneeded except the "not physical dumps" marked as missing (in a "physical dumps ONLY" DAT the "not physical dumps" aren't present and btw all the others roms can't be "unneeded")

EDIT:
i cannot post previous NES and SNES DATs because i deleted them to use the new ones :(
btw i think is a problem of DoM generator... create a "ALL" physical dumps also if "ONLY" is choose...

If they are not in the DAT but the files are in the scanning directory they are indeed "unneeded" because they are not part of the DAT. I cannot explain the "not physical dumps" in a "physical dumps only" DAT showing as missing that's strange.

@DJ LYTA

At least according to the author, higan is a very accurate emulator but AFAIK it will eat up (much) more CPU power than the "competition".

I'd say Snes9x is a good alternative if you have a "less" powerful PC.

It's the same, in No-Intro's naming convention Rev 1 means Ver 1.1.

Anyone got these?

Super Mario RPG (Europe) (Wii Virtual Console)
Romancing SaGa 2 (Japan) (Wii Virtual Console)

Emphasis on Wii version which had exclusive changes, not the Wii U one since it's identical to the retail ones. Either the wad or the extracted and merged SNES rom is fine, though I prefer the latter if possible at all.

The new snes rom along with the ereader, banesse and wonderswan are in a alternate universe, their data slipped to our universe after a fraction of the fabric of reality so sadly i dont think we will ever get them unless somebody can travel to the other universe and retrieve those few roms and come back.
Which is impossible now cause we would not have enough power for a device capable of something like that

Anyone got the SNES Mini Star Fox 2 (Japan) ROM yet?

In the meanwhile, here's a new one. An exclusive revision of Mario no Picross for the Wii U Virtual Console (also released on 3DS VC and Wii VC, didn't rip them yet but they should be similar) where they changed a few puzzles to avoid copyright.

As usual Nintendo tampered with it a bit and it soft-locks at start-up, but if you use the ROM renaming trick so that this game uses the SRAM from the older dump, it plays just fine. Steps for dummies:

There's lots of these, and the Japanese ones especially are basically unknown because no one cares about them lol.
Perhaps expect more of these some day.

That's the USA version of the unreleased Star Fox 2, used in the US and PAL 2017 SNES Mini.
There's a different Japan version of the same game in the Japanese SNES Mini released yesterday, and I'm looking for that version.

It's confirmed that USA and Europe have the same ROM

edit: However, that doesn't mean that the region should be changed to (USA, Europe)! It's a USA ROM.

When both roms are the same , same CRC32 , then the it should be USA,Europe .

Because you have same rom on Europe and Usa classic mnini

That would be true if the datfile was for SNES Mini, but it's for the original SNES console. You can't name it (USA, Europe) because it's actually a (USA) NTSC ROM and doesn't work on (Europe) PAL consoles.

Basically, this is the ROM that would have been released in the USA back in the day if the game wasn't cancelled. There would've been a (Europe) PAL ROM also, but that's not the case now. There is no need for PAL anymore. Modern TV's are 60hz and so the SNES Mini's are all loaded with USA ROMs.

It's the official European version of starfox2 but here in Europe the game was called starwing so the title screen has me modified to correct that.

Yes, I paid a small fortune for the PAL version back in 1993 (600 DKR, approx 100$ in todays money).
I got to admit, I still prefer StarFox/Starwing over the sequal, it's one of my all-time faves on SNES. :D
If only the SuperFX logo animation before the game starts was included in emulation... :'(

Noooooo...

The original developer said they prepared international versions for all three markets translated in the appropriate languages.
This means that there is a PAL version of Star Fox 2, whatever it is called, but it would have 3 languages (French, German, and English) and more importantly would be 50 Hz.
Your version isn't either, so it's NOT that lost European version and that you modified it makes it NOT official.

Nintendo used to use on the European Virtual Console on Wii and Wii U the original PAL versions which had multiple languages, but people bitched that they were 50 Hz, and in cases where it was originally 50 Hz but they bothered converting it to 60 Hz (uforia the saga for NES) they'd complain that they converted it badly.
So guess what, they stopped using the original PAL roms in Europe, and begun giving them the US roms which are 60FPS and faster. And English-only. For example Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Secret of Mana and A Link to the Past all have PAL roms translated to German and French. In Alttp's case it has a version for Canada even translated to french AND 60 Hz, and they still didn't use it on any VC!

As a result, Nintendo probably now has a PAL rom of Star Fox 2 in their vaults, but definitively just gave the US rom to European SNES MINI users.

I do however have a few things to say to you:

1 - Your title screen edit is awesome. My only nitpick is with the "official" term because it's factually wrong.

2 - Do you have the tools and the method how to edit it?
Because that COULD help us recreate a TRUE pal version. Without the 60>50FPS downgrade thou lol.
I'll explain - Donkey Kong Country games, and Yoshi's Island released in the same period, had a PAL version with 3 languages, BUT the US version that released way earlier already had the images and text translated inside but never used or accessible in-game, even with cheats.

I'd like to at least extract the SF2 US font so that I can determine, IF it has European accent letters, that there's hope for the rest of the assets to be in there. And then look for them.

Also thanks a billion for the Star Fox 2 Japanese release, @Jackal :D

Remember this is from European SNES mini, not from a regular European SNES cart, and afaik SNES mini doesn't run/support PAL 50hz.

Remember this is from European SNES mini, not from a regular European SNES cart, and afaik SNES mini doesn't run/support PAL 50hz.

1-Nintendo said the European SNES Mini uses the US ROMs.
Indeed, someone compared everything that's not SF2 and all roms from the US and European SNES Mini are identical and match the US ROMs from the nineties from No-Intro, and NOT the old PAL ROMs.

For this reason, I can't just extract Yoshi's Island from an European SNES Mini, which is identical to Yoshi's Island (USA) (Rev 1) with a few byte changes for sound emulation and flashing effects, and just add it to No-Intro as Yoshi's Island (Europe) (new revision). It's not a revision of the existing PAL Yoshi's Island ROMs in any sense of the term.

2-European SNES ROMs have always been running in 50 Hz.

3-A modified ROM (outside of modifications to make it run) is not "official" and will always get rejected by No-Intro. Nintendo never published a SNES Star Fox 2 with the Starwing logo and 60 Hz.
A real PAL rom was made back in 1996 according to developers, and was multi language, but they never published it, and it ran in 50 Hz.

I insist on this clarification because having this modification marked as an official PAL version misleads people into thinking we got that PAL ROM and there's no reason to look for it anymore in prototypes, but in fact we still don't have the real PAL version.
In this same topic already not even three days ago, someone said there's no reason to look for the Star Fox 2 (Japan) version because it's already out, and linked the US ROM, so I hope you see my point.

4- The SNES Mini can run PAL 50 Hz ROMs if they're modded inside, but Nintendo chose to program its support and never use it with PAL ROMs. It's the NES Mini that had this PAL 50 Hz mode not only unused but incomplete.

The rom "Unholy Night - The Darkness Hunter" added yesterday was dumped and hacked by team alacant, so it must be deleted.

EmteCoke, a member of this website, uploaded some roms dumped by different devices http://romshepherd.com/index.php/topic,6198.msg88228.html#msg88228 (http://romshepherd.com/index.php/topic,6198.msg88228.html#msg88228).

I figured out that all roms are headered. Once you remove the header and compare with an hexadecimal editor all roms match except the .SWC one, which differes four bytes.

My Mario's Picross dump got added to No-Intro? That sounds good.

Here's a few more Virtual Console dumps then.
This time though they didn't change much, just anti-epilepsy patches but I figured some people might appreciate to have those.

I included The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past, as extracted from the US Wii U Virtual Console service. It's on the European store as well. It's the US version from 1992 with flashing instances removed but you don't have to use their darkened emulator to enjoy it.
There are French and German versions on the European Wii U store, based on the original PAL versions in those respective languages. NOT the 60 Hz French version that got released in Canada 20 years ago, but the 50 Hz one.

Super Mario RPG was only released in the US back in 1996.
That version with reduced flashing was released on:
- US Wii Virtual Console
- US Wii U Virtual Console
- Europe Wii U Virtual Console (what I used here)
The changes are apparently the exact same across all versions.

HOWEVER there is another version that only came on the Europe Wii Virtual Console and it restored the Japanese Super Famicom button colors, changed some visual effects and some text.
I'm still trying to figure out which tool to use to extract it. Someone already extracted it but didn't share it which is a shame.

I tried extracting Earthbound but while the game runs perfectly fine the music pulls instruments from the wrong places and screeches a lot. I don't think this is the intended way it's supposed to be and probably an edge case the conversion tool didn't handle well.

If it is useful information, Nintendo assigned internal IDs to these Virtual Console releases.
JADE for the Zelda 3 one, and JABP for the Super Mario RPG one.

Weird downloading the same dat you have and reading the datfile in the copy of that exact same dat (I just freshly downloaded it)
I'm getting a different checksum in it.

Code:

Going to go do it over again, I must have screwed up somewhere, very drained I've been at this for hours.

Found it! the custom dats with with Parent/Clone setups have a different checksum then the main default dat, that being
the case which is the correct one?

Forgive my noob-ness, but I don't really manage the DATs using a program, so I don't know how to make a fixdat. I am just using 7zip to check CRCs of files I got from here and other places against the DAT file from DAToMatic. I got the complete 20170425 set and all updates up to 20170908 from another forum, and all the remaining ROMs from 20170908 to today from this forum. This is the Star Fox 2 that I am missing, copied straight from the latest DAT:

That's a brutal way to check ROMs. Check out Romulus, ROM Center, and/or CLRMAMEPro pretty much anything other than by hand in 7zip. However, to each their own, ROM attached, enjoy!

Actually, I have all those programs. I was simply describing how I checked I had the last few ROMs I needed since the last cumulative update pack I downloaded back in September. (Speak of the devil, a 20171210 update pack just appeared there. I was starting to cobble together stuff manually because I was worried that Star Fox 2 would be missing from said pack due to the whole brouhaha 6 months ago, and turns out it's there anyway - I guess because the No-Intro sets thread on that forum has grandfather protection by the mods.)

I just don't really do DAT checks like that very much because I don't keep full sets indefinitely. I start with the full sets, yes, but I work backwards to what I want to keep (using LookDisk, Excel and PowerShell scripts to compare lists of titles of games I don't want against lists of games I have, output a CSV or delimited TXT file, and deleting those files with the script), so a pure "missing" list would be useless to me since it would include stuff I intentionally deleted.

Thanks for the file!

In my signature, you have SNES set that has almost everything up to date. You will need to just swap those 3 corrected ROMs. Or just post your fix dat

Any news about the lost "Super Turrican Director's Cut" version that was supposed to be out in early February bundled with the Analogue NT console? The console is already out by now, but overly expensive ($190).

It's supposed to be 6 Megabits (768kB) unlike the currently available 4 Megabits (524kB) version of Super Turrican (already on No-Intro)
Apparently it's in the console digitally, not as a cart, along with Super Turrican 2.

While I do not have the skill to do this, a "jailbreak' for the Analogue Super NT was released: https://github.com/SmokeMonsterPacks/Super-NT-Jailbreak/tree/master/firmware (https://github.com/SmokeMonsterPacks/Super-NT-Jailbreak/tree/master/firmware)

According to reports, Super Turrican - Director's Cut remains intact after flashing this updated firmware. That leaves the possibility that Super Turrican Director's cut is contained within this firmware. However, I do not have the skills to extact, unpack, disassemble, etc. this firmware, but someone who does have those skills (or knows how to identify a SNES rom heuristically), may be able to extract the rom out.

Sadly encrypted and/or compressed from what I can tell.
The person who did the jailbreak now works at Analog, which means he won't help either.
The "jailbreak" is really just the feature to load ROMs, but in a way Analog gets that added to their product with none of the legal baggage that comes with attaching their name on it, or having to support it completely, with coprocessor chip ROMs for example.

I own the Super Nt because I'm a big fan of Turrican. I had read about the 6 MiBit version in a magazine when the game came out and when I learned many years later that this version actually existed - not only on paper - it became my holy grail.

Unfortunately as I have already written on no-intro forums it is not what I expected. Yes, there is an additional stage in the ice world but that's mainly it.  The end of ice world 3-1 is now different as there are some frozen robots lying around on top of what looks like small buildings. You can melt these guys and destroy them afterwards. After 3-1 you are fighting in a new stage set up in a flying robot facility offering new gfx and new robot enemies - actually just one that comes in two color variants. The music is "Air Combat" from the "train" stage in the retail version which now features a different track (from Mega Turrican I think). The intro looks a bit different, the music playing when the Turrican logo shows up appears to be a bit worse (?) since there are tones missing from the retail. A few new sound effects may be there (stalactite in stage 3-1?).

Unfortunately all the "missing" enemies advertised on Factor5's homepage are not found in the DC. Yes, what you see on their hp is the Wii manual gallery, I have found a real picture of it online:

https://www.retrojunkie.de/2008/05/31/turrican-has-left-the-building/ (https://www.retrojunkie.de/2008/05/31/turrican-has-left-the-building/)

You can read this on their homepage:

Quote
On a final note about Super Turrican, if you look at the Enemy Gallery in the game manual that can be brought up by pushing the home button on the Wii-Remote, there are several nasty critters in there that you won't find in this official retail version of Super Turrican due to memory constraints. We were told to deliver the game in 4 Mbit (512 KByte), the smallest size cartridge available at the time, after finishing it as a 6 MBit title.

http://www.factor5.de/secrets_super_turrican.shtml (http://www.factor5.de/secrets_super_turrican.shtml)

They claim those were missing due to memory limitations and point to the fact they had to cut the game from 6 to 4 MiBits. But it appears it didn't have anything to do with that so the whole story doesn't make sense anymore. Even the DC appears to be nothing like an unfinished version of the original plan. Why they advertise the 6 MiBit version as the ultimate original is beyond me. There are at least 10 enemies in that gallery that are not found in the game. The one on the lower right is used in ST2, but I remember vaguely someone mentioned it was originally planned for ST1. I can't find the source for this anymore so please take it with a grain of salt. The face in the lower left doesn't appear in any Turrican game afair. Others are found in Mega Turrican and it would only be logical to have pendants in ST1. There is an unused boss music in the retail version used for the scrap yard boss in MT, but it is still unused in the DC. If anyone wishes to explain all this feel free to do so. I just don't get it.

So no levels after the "Alien" world like in Turrican 1, 2 & 3 ?
After completing all the Turricans on Amiga more times than I can count, I was quite disappointed when the credits started to roll after blowing up the Alien boss, no final world or fight against The Machine. :(

Seems like the Battle Cars (USA) update is completely erroneous (e.g., it even changes the extension to BS). The CRC32/SHA1 match "BS Marvelous - Camp Arnold Course - Dai-1-shuu" from the MAME BS/Satellaview SNES xml.

Thanks a lot for your reply, and my sympathies about your huge Super Turrican disappointment.
It's probably any unfinished prototype they could get their hands on from the 6Mbit version, and there's a big chance they never inserted those enemies in the concept art to begin with. It was fishy how little coverage for it was, and how promises about the cut content kept getting decreased each time.

I don't think you left out much information, it was a pretty comprehensive look on the situation.

There's also the official site but it hasn't been maintained for years, it has the same information and even that same pic as the German website you linked to earlier (EDIT: nvm it's in your post already)

Some ROMs too, but just the Amiga versions:
http://www.factor5.de/downloads_backups.shtml

More ROMs on their server, but all are from the Amiga days too:
http://www.factor5.de/downloads/

Thanks for your reply anyways.
Hopefully someone manages to extract it some day.

Why is Nightmare Busters ONLY in PAL though? Every rom of this game is PAL, I haven't found a single NTSC one? So the game runs at 50fps rather than 60fps.

If it's a PAL (Euro, etc) release, then it's meant to run at 50fps. That's how it was coded to run.

Socks the Cat was released.
It was by Kemko and slated for 1994 but apparently Nintendo rejected it initially because it had real life politics and that was against their guidelines, but after that it was on track for a release and even got reviewed.

Someone who found a prototype of it didn't want to share the ROM online, and instead sold it off.
The second guy made a kickstarter to hire a hacker to finish the game and to make $100 repro carts of it, those who backed less would get the ROM.

It seems the KS rewards started coming. The carts and ROM are out in the wild.
Anyone has more information (and goodies) about that?

Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death (UNI) (USA).........
Thanks for the ROM!
I'm curious. Among these dumps there are 4 identical (once header removed) and one marked as [BAD SUMCHECK] but this one is the only one with correct checksum. I really wonder what is the best dump.
I used SMC File Checker, InSNESt and Ucon64 to check the sumcheck on all the rom dumps i made.. The one that's marked BAD SUMCHECK came out bad when i check it with SMC File Checker same goes when i checked with InSNESt and Ucon64 the others were good when i check them but all  work file on a Sd2snes and Super Nintendo Back up units..
I used NSRT to remove headers and test checksums. I will test it with the other tools you've mentioned. As you said both dumps work well with emulators (I haven't tested it with Super Everdrive and Super UFO Pro 8 yet).

Thanks agsin for the ROMs!
Incredible...

NSRT detects as good checksum the one you marked as BAD SUMCHECK and detected as bad checksum the other one.
And in the other hand Ucon64 detects just the opposite: detected as bad checksum the one you marked as BAD SUMCHECK and viceversa...

I'm just amazed :o

BTW: tested both ROMs with Super UFO Pro8 (runs OK) and Super Everdrive (Runs OK after changing ROM size to 2M).

Is the ROM of Socks the cat out yet?

I've been wondering why the dump was replaced with the dump with that less than desirable crack intro.
No-Intro adds a dump with an intro, oh the irony. ;D
